Meanwhile the GOP candidates go nuclear on one another:
Republican Bill McCollum seized upon the withdrawal of a newspaper endorsement for rival Mel Martinez on Monday, urging party activists to reject "the politics of bigotry and hatred" on the eve of a bitter Senate primary.
McCollum cited an editorial by the St. Petersburg Times, which rescinded its endorsement of Martinez after his campaign called the former congressman "the new darling of the homosexual extremists" in today's primary.
"He's trying to use the politics of bigotry and hatred to get elected," McCollum said at a Tampa news conference with his campaign chairman, former U.S. Sen. Connie Mack.
